About Us

The Finnish Haidong Gumdo Association is dedicated to spreading the knowledge and spirit of Haidong Gumdo throughout Finland. We organize training at all levels — from beginner to instructor — and support the Finnish national team in international competitions.

The association operates mainly in three cities: Helsinki, Espoo and Mikkeli. The national chairman and headmaster is Kauko Metsähovi, who also serves on the executive council of the European Haidong Gumdo Federation.

The chief instructor of the Baek-Ho Haidong Gumdo branch in Espoo is Tuire Salomaa.

Our objective is to offer access to authentic Haidong Gumdo training while fostering discipline, confidence, and physical well-being.

What is Haidong Gumdo?

Haidong Gumdo is a traditional Korean sword martial art that has evolved since the 1970s. It is suitable for all ages and offers a powerful physical and mental practice for people leading busy modern lives.

Haidong Gumdo means:

  • (Hai) / Sea
  • (Dong) / East
  • (Gum) / Sword
  • (Do) / The right way

“Haidong” refers to the sun rising over the eastern sea — symbolizing the birth of bright light and new beginnings.
